Well, it's over now! K-M-A-S Radio had our first and final performance tonight! It went very well! Better than I thought it would! Mom, Nick, and I got there at 3:30 to help with a few last minute details. Around 5:15, I started working with my hair. I was wearing the Rosie the Riveter hairstyle, but I was adding a few curls and some bangs to it. Then, I ate my dinner and got into my costume and put on make up. The show started right at 7:00 pm. After Concert Choral sang, it was time! Everybody took their places and began. It was fantastic! There were a couple minor problems, but we fixed them all and the show was a success! Here are some pictures I managed to take.

Nick (Arthur Kensington - Station Manager) and Jon (A Classic Players graduate that made a cameo appearance)

Marissa (Katie) and myself (Brenda)!

Sam and Sam and our Director - Mrs. Bielicki

Esther (Charlene) and Me (Brenda) at the awesome 40's microphone! Louie Armstrong actually sang into this mic! ^_^

Nick (Arthur) and Kevin (John)

Josh (Pastor Sherman) and Me (Brenda)

Mrs. Bielicki and Me!

The play was a ton of fun! I had a great time playing an adult. Brenda the Barter Queen was a character I could really get into! I am sad that we could only do one show though... Oh well!

Coming up next with Classic Players is the Scarlet Pimpernel! This will be our spring production (which will have TWO showings!). We will audition and begin rehearsing in January. I don't have any plays going on in the entire month of December, so, I bid you farewell and I will blog to you in the new year!

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

K-M-A-S Radio: Dress Rehearsal!

Tonight was the final dress rehearsal for K-M-A-S Radio!  Call was at 6:15, but Mom, Nick and I got there at 4:00 to help Mrs. Beilicki finish setting up.  This involved setting up the prop table, adding things to the stage, and got the dressing rooms set.

Around 5:45, we were all set, so I went and ate my dinner (soup...  I have a cold) and ran lines Nick and Kevin.  After that, I figured I should go get into my costume and fix my hair.  I will take some pictures tomorrow and post them, since I didn't get a chance to take one of me tonight.  I fixed my hair with a brown and black bandanna in the "Rosie the Riveter" style.  My dress is knee length, short sleeved, with a light brown flower print all over it.  It also has gold buttons running all the way down it.  For shoes, I am wearing my tan character shoes.

Around 6:45, almost all of the Classic Players were ready and waiting, so we played some drama games to warm up, including Zing, Same letter sentence, Same letter paragraph, and some projection games.  Then, it was time for rehearsal to start.  The children's choir and Young Thesbians went first (and did very well).  Then, Concert Choral sang.

That meant it was finally time for the Classic Player's play to begin.  We ran a couple scenes that were later on in the plat first so that the children's choir (which is singing a song during the play) could leave.  Then, we ran the show from the top!  It went much better than I expected.  Sure, there are still a couple rough bits, but with the amount of rehearsal time we are given (45 min, once a week!) I think we did a pretty good job!

Tomorrow, the show opens...  :)

K-M-A-S Radio - First Full Run Through

On Wednesday November 24th, the Classic Players had their first complete run through of K-M-A-S Radio.  The rehearsal went from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm!

The rehearsal began by listening to the lovely Children's Choir sing a few numbers.  My favorite was the song I Hate Misteltoe!  We all started cracking up, including some of the girls that were singing the song!  The kids then practiced walking off stage, getting their props, and coming back on stage for the Young Thesbians play.

This little performance explained what a Christmas tree means, why we decorate a Christmas Tree, and what the decorations mean.  It was a very sweet little play!

After that, the Concert Choral sang their pieces.  My favorite song that we are singing this year is a Ukranian Folk Tune called Sleigh Bells.  If I can, I will try to post a video on here after the performance.

Finally, it was time for the Classic Players to work on K-M-A-S Radio.  Our run through was rocky at best, but I am sure it will come together.  It was the first time that no body had a script on stage.  Some people were thrown off by different scene changes, which we had'nt rehearsed before.  This was also the first time that I had rehearsed in my costume.  It is just a little bit tight, so I rehearsed in it yesterday to make sure I didn't need to find a different costume.  One other aspect that threw me off a bit was my ankle.  I have weak ankles, and consequently they get injured a lot.  I recently injured my ankle in the last play I was in (The Velveteen Rabbit) and I am still wearing the brace.  In K-M-A-S Radio, I have several scenes where I have to exit quickly, by running.  This caused my ankle to hurt more.  I am going to make sure I rest my ankle this weekend so I will be all set for our dress rehearsal on Monday!

We are counting down the days untill the perforamnce!  Current count, 5 more days!!!

K-M-A-S Radio: Christmas on the Homefront

Currently, I am performing in a play with my homeschooling fine arts group (MHFA).  This winter, we are doing K-M-A-S Radio: Christmas on the homefront.

The play is set in the 1940's - during the time of World War II.  The play is centered around a small time radio show that is trying to put on a Christmas special.  We meet the station manager - Arthur Kensington - and his assistant - Katie.  Other people at the radio station include Pastor Sherman, Martha (a drama queen), and Simon (who has re-written the Christmas story as a Private Eye story!)When Simon blackmails Arthur into useing his version of the Christmas story, the chaos ensues!  Meanwhile, this entire Shindig is being held at the town's USO.  The USO is managed by Brenda (the "Barter Queen") and is hosted in Charlene's toy store.  Helping them out is Charlene's grandson, Jimmy, who despretly wants to enlist.  And all of those soliders hanging around the toy stor aren't helping!  It is at this USO that we meet John Thomas, a returned war hero who is missing his right arm.  While this may seem like a happy situation, that means that something is bound to go wrong!

Come and see this heart warming production on November 30th at 7:00 pm.  Also performing will be the Children's Choir, the Young Thesbians (with their brief performance to remind us what a Christmas tree and it's decorations represent), and the Concert Choral.  The show will take place at Family of Faith Church 6645 West Steger Road, Monee, IL.  Addmision is free - a suggested donation is $2.00.
